Every dollar counts!
Raising children, buying a home, changing careers or just keeping up with the bills is not always easy. There are many benefits, credits and programs available to help you. Find out which ones you may be eligible for.
I have children
As a parent, especially a single parent, you know how expenses can add up. The Canada child benefit (CCB) helps with the cost of raising children.
Over one year, families can get up to $6,833 for each child under 6 and up to $5,765 for each child aged 6 to 17.
Pssst... this is tax-free money.
I am buying a home
Whether you are buying your first home (congratulations!), buying a new home or renovating your current home, there is a program to help.
Home Buyers’ Plan – allows you to withdraw from your Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSPs) to buy or build a home
First-Time Home Buyer Incentive – lowers your monthly mortgage payments on your first home
GST/HST new housing rebate – gives you back some of the GST/HST paid on a home
Home buyers’ amount – reduces your income taxes by providing a credit for the purchase of a home
I am training for my career or upgrading my skills
Did you take a course or training in 2020? The Canada training credit (CTC) may be for you. If you are at least 26 years old, you may be able to claim this credit when you do your taxes. You accumulate $250 in your training credit limit each year you are eligible, for a maximum of $5,000 in your lifetime.
I am working and earning a low income
If you are working hard but struggling to make ends meet, the Canada workers benefit (CWB) might be able to help. The CWB provides a financial boost to individuals and families who are in the workforce and earning a low income.
I have a low-modest income
The GST/HST credit helps individuals and families with low and modest incomes offset the tax they pay on goods and services. Over one year, single individuals can get up to $456 and a couple with two children can receive up to $912.
